Dan Schaefer, 53, of Hillsboro displays a 1965 Volkswagen Beetle, one of at least 15 he has owned. He bought it white, painted it red, and then painted it pink. The Beetle has more than 200,000 miles on it. "VWs are easy to fix and cheap to fix," he said.

Hillsboro's Bradli Nowak beats a throw to first for an infield hit Thursday in the regional championship game against Council Grove in Marion. The sixth-inning hit knocked home the first of three runs that gave the Trojans a 10-0 win and a trip to the state championship tournament in Manhattan. Second-seeded Hillsboro plays Wellsville on Thursday.
