Union Pacific employees worked Thursday to dismantle the rugged railroad crossing on W. Main St. so that a prefabricated section of rails and ties could be pushed into place and the crossing reconstructed. Detoured traffic from US-56 during construction of a roundabout contributed to deterioration of the crossing, and local drivers had hoped for a quick fix when the detour ended last September.
Ellie Frye grabs more paint for her project at craft camp Tuesday. The craft camp, taught by Hillsboro High School graduate Greta Wiebe, will continue through Friday at Hillsboro city building. It offers various craft projects for kids. Among them are painting crates, making photo and memory boards, and creating fabric garlands.
Marion County times for discharging fireworks are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. today through Friday, and 8 a.m. to midnight Saturday through Monday. Fireworks may be discharged outside city limits, on private property, and at Marion County Lake (not the reservoir).
