Marion Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a farm/city appreciation banquet Nov. 22 in the city building. Steak will be served at 6 p.m. The event has been occurring every year for at least 20 years to show appreciation to area farmers and ranchers for supporting the Marion business community.

Senator-elect Jerry Moran announced Friday that veteran Ryan Newell of Marion will assist in choosing nominees to the U.S. Military, U.S. Naval, and U.S. Merchant Marine academies. Newell, a veteran of the war in Iraq, is among 16 volunteers who will interview candidates Nov. 20 at the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene.

Boy Scouts Adam Palic and Charles Stuchlik are pictured as they fill potholes and washouts with gravel along residents’ access roads Saturday at Marion County Park and Lake. The project met Stuchlik’s and Adam Molleker’s Eagle Scout service project requirement. Volunteers used 24 tons of rock to repair the roads.

A feature story by Susan Berg tells how Kathy Ehrlich, 2096 Sunrise Rd., Marion, has had a love for collecting snowmen as long as she can remember. There will be nearly 100 on display when visitors come to the Ehrlich home during the Marion City Library’s Christmas Home Tour on Nov 28.
