After 22 years in business, Marion Pizza Hut abruptly and permanently closed its doors Monday, shocking employees and community members alike.

Owner Dennis Staab cited rising costs of employee health care and low sales volume and contended that Pizza Hut’s franchise model is not really set up to be successful in rural America.

New Hillsboro police officer Randy Brazil was off-duty, coming home from dinner with his wife, when he smelled an odor of marijuana coming from behind some bushes on his several-acre property.

Lucas Mattos, 21, listed as a soccer player at Tabor College, was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana.

Brazil told them they picked the wrong property to do that on, Chief Dan Kinning said.

Susan Robson, Marion County attorney since 2000, won the August primary for Ellsworth County attorney but has changed her mind, decided that she no longer wants to be a full-time prosecutor, and will return to private practice in Marion.
