Officers of Company M inform us that the company will mobilize here Aug. 5 and will be in camp here for two week. The officers say that the best guess as to where they will go after that is Fort Sill, Oklahoma, for training. One of the officers states the company will in all probability be in France by Christmas.

Governor H.S. Martin was down from Lawrence several days the first of the week.

A barn on the place just north of Harn’s Produce House was destroyed by fire this morning. J.E. Washburn was the heaviest loser, as both hacks, a set of harnesses, and a lot of hay and other feed were burned. He had only a small amount of insurance. When the fire was discovered by Ed Freeland, who lives across the street, the whole top of the barn was in flames.

J.H. Ogden will spend Tuesday and Wednesday of next week in Kansas City attending a photographers’ convention.

Mr. and Mrs. John Wheeler and young son arrived the first of this week from Ann Arbor, where John recently graduated from law school. Their many friends give them a cordial welcome here and wish for Mr. Wheeler a large success in his profession.

Anna Schoneman has been appointed as temporary superintendent of the hospital, and Mrs. E. Stanley of Salina is engaged to do the regular nursing.
