The financial situation that led many banks over the country to restrict cash payments has not caused any considerable trouble in Kansas. As a precautionary measure, banks in many cases have restricted the amount of cash to be paid to any one depositor each day and issued the balance in clearing house certificates.

Electric light bulbs have been put on the ornamental pillars at Central Park entrances and the juice was turned on for the first time Tuesday evening. As everyone said, “don’t they look fine!”

The Junior Chautauqua is arousing a lot of interest among children. They had an auto ride about town Saturday evening and a play festival in the park Tuesday evening and have something doing every day.

The street east from the Rock Island to the first corner — the Schoneman place — is to be paved.

Frank Loveless received this week from the Martins in the Philippines a bamboo hat as a graduating present.

The judges have awarded the prizes offered by G.E. Eye on the best dozen potatoes grown this season by boys and girls younger than 15 years of age. First prize, which was $10, went to Mabel Kreutziger of Canada. Second prize of $5 went to Ada Woolheater of Marion, and third prize of $2.50 to Earl Winkley of Marion. The judges were S.L. Brose and Ed Harn. There were nine contestants.
