Rock Island here!

The Rock Island construction train crossed the Luta and entered the city limits Wednesday afternoon.

Yesterday morning the track was laid through the city, and was witnessed by thousands of people. There are 117 men in the gang, and they are laying a mile and a half of track a day.

Commencement

The capacious opera house was well filled last Friday night and an attentive and appreciative audience assembled to witness the graduation exercises of Marion High School.

The six graduates, namely Misses Libbie Jacobus, Hattie Hodge, and Maude Murphy and Messrs. Harmon Claney, Wilbur Tomlinson, and Will Runyan, acquitted themselves with great credit to themselves and to the school.

Mr. C.C. Thayer of this city is selling an ornamental and useful attachment for all kinds of vehicles to hold the reins when not driving. It is much better than tying and much safer than dropping them.

Muller and Apel have recently done a nice job of frescoing in the Presbyterian church. We do not believe that Marion properly appreciates these accomplished workmen. The city is really fortunate in having such artists in their line as permanent residents.

Mr. Wishart is pushing his foundry building as rapidly as men and money can do it. He thinks he will be able to keep 30 or 40 men, at least, employed when he gets his shops in operation.
