Henry Shockley, Florence native now living in Marion, is pictured displaying “Hearts,” a book about his experiences as a reconnaissance squad leader in Vietnam. The book is available in major bookstores and online.

With a triple jump of 37 feet 11½ inches this past weekend at the Kansas Relays in Lawrence, junior Julia Zeiner became the first female athlete from Marion High School to take first place at the relays.

Gerri Williams of Marion and Shelley Stafford of Hays returned Monday to Kansas after spending the weekend in North Carolina attending the Ms. Wheelchair North Carolina pageant in which their sister, Teresa Higgins, participated.

Centre High School’s power lifting team won April 4 at Tescott and went on Saturday to win the state 1A power-lifting meet at Bushton. Team members are Canh Antoszyk, Mikael Antoszyk, Zach Antoszyk, Konley Harding, Rustyn Kerbs, Adam Kristek, Casey Kristek, Adam Matz, Cole Svoboda, and James Weber.

Marion City Library is one of 256 libraries in the United States to be named an America’s Star Library by Library Journal magazine.
