The historic Stephen Jex building in downtown Marion was torn down Sunday due to concerns about the building becoming a safety hazard. The city bought and tore down the building at the corner of Main and Second streets.

Work began this week on track improvements at Marion Stadium. New pits for field events such as the high jump are being dug while the track itself will be brought level to its existing curb with asphalt. A special coating then will be applied to the surface.

Six Marion High School students and teacher Grant Thierolf will have a front seat to discussion of the presidential election results this coming week. Traveling to Washington, D.C., are students Ashley Deforest, Amy Goentzel, Lynn Hess, Steven Janzen, Ryan Thomas, and Kevin Weigart. They are participating in the Close Up Foundation government studies program.

Marion Christmas Home Tours are scheduled for Dec. 3. Homes on the tour are those of Kelly and Susan Robson, Matt and Mary Kay Classen, Earl and Joan Winter, and Dick and Marge Schwartz.

Jack and Marjorie Regnier will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 3 with an open house at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. They were married Dec. 26, 1950, at Concordia.
