Weather couldn’t have been better Friday evening when 237 walkers took to the track at Warrior Stadium for the annual Marion County Relay for Life. A record-breaking amount of $40,000 was raised for American Cancer Society.

Residents and business leaders have formed a committee to propose a downtown improvement project. The city council has approved money for an engineer to draw plans and provide cost estimates for decorative streetlights, underground electrical wiring, and new benches, planters, and trash receptacles.

Stephen Priest, a recognized railroad historian, will present a talk, “Railroads, the History and Heritage,” at the August meeting of Chat and Dine Club.

Marion High School students Kimber Hardey and Jessica Vogel participated in the 23rd annual All-State High School Marching and Band Camp at Pittsburg State University. Hardey plays a horn, and Vogel plays a flute.
