National Teachers Hall of Fame at Emporia State University hosted its five 1995 inductees this past weekend. The winners and several past winners were at Jim Donahue’s Clover Cliff Bed and Breakfast near Elmdale Friday for lunch and an abbreviated tour. They also visited Strong City and the Z-Bar Ranch.

Joel Thomas, 12-year-old son of Patti and Tom Thomas of Marion, went to New York City over the Memorial Day weekend to sing in a North American Children’s Choir at Carnegie Hall. There were 675 children from the United States and Canada in attendance.

Butch’s Diner in Tampa is the subject of this week’s series, “Eating Around the County,” by staff writer Brenden Sager. The diner, housed in the former Tampa State Bank building, was purchased in 1980 by Butch and Phyllis Mueller who operated it until shortly before Butch’s death in 1994. Present owners and operators are Marvin and Maggie Meisinger.

The annual Marion Basketball Camp, hosted by Bob Chipman of Washburn University returns July 10-12 to Marion High School Gym. Any student age 7 to 18 is welcome to attend.

Marion’s Children’s Theater will present “Velveteen Rabbit July 12 and 13 at Holy Family Parish Activity Center. There is no admission, but donations at the door will be accepted.
