Marion Chamber of Commerce has 500 Christmas presents ready for wrapping. Marionopoly is now available at $20 each. Each of the squares of the full-color game board features the name of a local business. The center features the town seal and the legend of how the town was founded.

Beaston’s Market, Marion’s only downtown food store, will go out of business Dec. 29, according to owner Thad Meierhoff. The store has been in business 92 years. Meierhoff purchased it from Jack Beaston in July 1994.

“Beary Special Babies” born in November at St. Luke Hospital were Trent Alan Barnett, born Nov. 13; Triston Douglas English, Nov. 19; Shelby Rose Svitak, Nov. 23; Cody Michael Oswald, Nov. 26; Brittany Renae Lago, Nov. 27; and Trey Everette Hughes, Nov. 30.

Students from Centre Unified School District traveled by bus to Topeka to view the Treasures of the Czars exhibition. The trip was made possible by a $500 grant from Tampa State Bank.

Dr. A.E. Janzen, 103, former president of Tabor College and Mennonite Brethren Missions executive, died Dec. 2 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

Peanut soup and yam stew were dished up to Marion Elementary School second graders Thursday during their study of Africa. Students are learning the geography and culture of different areas of the planet. Not all students were impressed with peanut soup, but some though it was tasty.
