2 guns, police badge stolen

A Peabody police officer’s badge, two handguns, and other items were stolen from his house the evening of June 6.

Peabody Police Chief Bruce Burke said he wasn’t concerned about the possibility of someone using the badge to impersonate a police officer.

Peabody police and the Marion County sheriff and attorney are seeking information they hope will lead to the arrest and conviction of whoever committed the burglary between 5:45 and 8:20 p.m. June 6 in the 700 block of North Plum Street in Peabody.

Items taken included badge No. 34, two handguns, a camera, and an Xbox video-game system. The items were stolen from the home of Marion County Deputy Sheriff James Philpott.

“Any information given would be considered confidential in nature and would be greatly appreciated,” Burke said. “Any cooperation in this matter would be helpful.”
