8 new COVID cases reported Tuesday

Nineteen new cases of COVID-19, including eight disclosed Tuesday, have been reported since print editions of the paper were produced.

The county’s total number of cases is now 172. That means a countywide infection rate of 14.5 cases per 1,000 residents, an increase of 1.6 in the past seven days.

Counties with infection rate increases of 1.0 or more over seven days are classified federally as “red zones.”

Visitors to such counties may be required by some localities to quarantine after returning from those areas.

Among the 172 patients, 22 were being treated or exhibiting symptoms of the virus as of Tuesday evening, and two were hospitalized, according to the Marion County Health Department.

The new cases include:

Tuesday — Three teen-aged girls, two women in their 20s, a man in his 40s, a man in his 20s, and a teen-aged boy.

Monday — Two women in their 70s, a woman in her 60s, a man in his 70s, and a man in his 50s.

Friday — Three women, one in her 80s, one in her 50s, and one in her 30s.

Thursday — A man in his 60s.

Wednesday — Two women, one in her 60s, the other in her 30s.
