2 teams head to break victorious

Staff writers

Marion girls head into Christmas break this week after a hard-fought 44-42 victory Thursday over Medicine Lodge.

Callie Burkholder finished with 15 points, all on three-point shots. Grace Hett was the leading scorer, finishing with 19 points.

“This was a total team effort win,” coach Jason Hett said. “We challenged them in practice last week, which translated to the game, where we had to bear down, get stops, and make plays under pressure.”

Marion will play Bennington at home Jan. 3.

Goessel dominates Heat

The Rural Vista Heat got off to 6-0 start Friday, but Goessel out-scored the visitors 19-3 to take a commanding lead.

The Heat would get as close as four points midway through the third quarter, but the Bluebirds kept their offense.

Cheyenne Sawyer finished with 12 points, and Braylyn Hoopes hit a season high 10 points.

Centre overwhelmed

The Cougars were overwhelmed by Canton-Galva at a home game Friday.

Hailey Barton, Olivia Carlson, and Sydney Smith combined to produce Centre’s only points in the first half, and Canton-Galva took a 23-7 halftime lead. The girls’ scoring improved in the second half, but the Eagles won, 46-17.

Olivia Carlson led Centre’s scoring with eight.

Hillsboro’s first loss

Southeast of Saline’s fifth-ranked girls stayed unbeaten on the year, handing the fourth-ranked Trojans their first loss of the year, 45-40.

Hillsboro’s next game will be on the road Jan. 3, at Hutch Trinity.
