2nd quarter haunts Goessel football

Staff writer

Goessel travelled to Ellinwood on Friday for a district football game, and came home on the short end of a 64-38 score.

Except for the second quarter, the Bluebirds played the Eagles fairly even. Both teams scored in the first quarter and the game was tied at 8 at the first break.

Ellinwood broke free from defenders for five touchdowns in the second quarter and the Bluebirds answered with just one. Ellinwood led at halftime 42-16.

The Bluebirds were unable to cut into the deficit in the second half, as each team scored three touchdowns.

The teams ran an equal number of plays, 69, and the Bluebirds possessed the ball for more minutes, but Ellinwood was more effective scoring on long runs and passes.

Goessel is now 2-4 for the season and 0-2 in district games. The Bluebirds will take on 6-0 Solomon at home on Friday.
