Congressman Pat Roberts spent three hours in Marion County, attending a lunch in Hillsboro and touring St. Luke Hospital and Living Center in Marion. Roberts was impressed with the facility. “For a county this size, this facility is outstanding,” the congressman said.

Mary Griffith is February’s teacher of the month. In her 10th year of teaching speech and English at Marion High School, she continues to stress communication as an important part of education.

Reporter / photographer Amy Smith’s column, “They made a difference,” this week features Bud Pierce, former businessman and city official. Since retirement, Pierce has kept busy square dancing and enjoying time to relax with his wife, Jean.

Gerald Wiens, a 1969 graduate of Marion High School, has been named Kansas Conservation Educator of the Year for 1993 by the Kansas Wildlife Federation.

Marion High School candidates for queen of courts are Renee Goodin, Allison Ford, and Terese Vinduska. King candidates are Adam Collett, Chris Helmer, and Kelly Bernhardt. Coronation will be Friday.
