City employees were hard at work all weekend cleaning streets of the eight-inch accumulation of snow. They worked Sunday and Monday, and into the nights. The Elm Street hill, long a favorite of Marion kids when nature coats the street with fluffy snow, was a popular spot Sunday and Monday.

Sylvester Winkley of the Spring Branch community is the grand prizewinner in the annual Marion County Record subscription contest. His new Victor electronic adder will be helpful in his farming operations.

Eight students from the Marion area graduated during fall commencement exercises Dec. 22 at Emporia State University. From Marion are Janice M. Bowers, Marjorie L. Collett, Collette S. Erickson, and Brenda J. (Richmond) Soyez.

Monica Klenda, a K-State sophomore from Lincolnville, is using her intersession vacation this January to tell interested persons in Marion County about the KSU College of Home Economics.

Frieda Schlotthauer, who has been writing news of the North Marion community of Strassburg for more than 20 years, is the subject of an article written by Pam Vinduska, staff writer/photographer for the Marion County Record.

The 50th annual Tampa Alumni Association banquet was held Dec. 23 at the Tampa Catholic Hall with 138 attending. Jay Bezdek was toastmaster.
