3 blood drives in county this month

The American Red Cross will have three blood drives in the county in a span of less than a week later this month.

The first blood drive will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 19 at Centre High School. There will be two blood drives Feb. 24 — one from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hillsboro High School and another from 2 to 6 p.m. at Goessel Mennonite Church.

Type O-negative blood is especially needed right now, the Red Cross said in a press release. It can potentially be used for transfusions with patients regardless of the recipient’s blood type.

Anyone wishing to donate can call (800) 733-2767 or visit http://www.redcrossblood.org to make an appointment. A donor should have a blood donor card, driver’s license, or two other forms of identification. Donors must be 18 years old (or 16 with a parent’s permission), weigh at least 110 lbs., and be in generally good health.
