Numerous acts of vandalism, resulting in thousands of dollars of damage, occurred on Christmas Eve. With no total amount of loss set for damage along Main Street, damage to three school buses at the high school is set at over $2,000.

“Personality Profile” subject this week is Greg Bowers, agricultural loan officer at Farmers and Drovers National Bank in Marion.

For his essay on “What the First Amendment Means to Me,” Bruce Winkler, a 17-year-old Marion High School junior, won second place in the Kansas Press Association-sponsored contest. Bruce is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Winkler, 560 S. Freeborn.

“Well that’s a shock! I haven’t won anything before.” That’s what Marion County Lake resident Verona Mullikin, said when told she was the first-place winner in the Marion County Record subscription contest. Other winners were Evelyn Janzen and Lyle Krause, both of Lincolnville, and Mrs. Guy Childs of Marion.

An article by news editor Mike Heckman tells how J.J. Vinduska of Pilsen has preserved the history of the wind turbine built by his father in 1874.
