A Tuesday morning fire at Mar Bowl Lanes, Weldon and Thorp streets, Marion, resulted in serious fire and smoke damage to the west portion of the building. Owner Bob Risenhoover could give no estimate on the damage, but said he hoped to have the alley operational this week,

Noreen Weems, director of the Marion County Department for Elderly, is completing her move from the annex building next to the courthouse to the Senior Center on South Third. Her office, along with Boyde Coffey’s (coordinator of transportation) will open Monday at the new location.

Jack Webb of Marion has been named the “number-one salesman of 1980” by The Lee Co., Salina, wholesale distributor with a sales force of 14 in Kansas and surrounding states. He is pictured with Jim Richmond, owner of Marion Lumber Co., who is one of Webb’s clients in Marion.

Pictured just south of St. Luke Hospital is a very big hole. The caption says it’s not a swimming pool for patients, but is the first step toward construction of the new medical clinic building at the hospital.

A trailer loaded with 16 head of cattle overturned on East Second Street in Peabody Dec. 9. Only one calf appeared injured as the herd untangled itself from the trailer and made its way down the street. The romp of freedom was short-lived, however. Authorities rounded up the cattle and righted the overturned trailer within two hours.

Jami Shirley led Marion High School’s Lady Warriors team against Centre Monday night, scoring 20 points and pulling down seven rebounds to help the team notch its third victory of the season, 46-41.
