A business change of major importance took place in Marion this week when Art Jantz, who has been in charge of the store’s meat department, purchased the interest of Dan Pankratz in what has been known as “Al & Dan’s Quality Food Market. The store will now be known as “Al & Art’s Quality Food Market.”

The Rock Island Railway has announced its proposed discontinuance of the Twin Star Rockets, only remaining trains of the line from Herington south, will become effective Oct. 17. Protests may be filed with the ICC until Oct. 2.

The Class of 1915 is planning to have several here on Old Settlers Day to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Harry R. Kline is the only member living in Marion.

Jo Marie Mueller celebrated her 10th birthday with a party Saturday afternoon. Guests were her classmates, Teresa Case, Becky Wood, Karen Pankratz, Dotty Lentz, Susie Lundgren, Sue Woerz, Debbie Douglas, and Linda Goentzel. Invited but unable to attend were Lynette Medley of Durham, Debbie Link, Janet Stika, and Beverly Bowers.

The basement of the city building was filled to capacity Tuesday evening as the annual Community Guild banquet was served to 288 members and guests by women of the Christian Church.

A very timely program, “Yankee Doodle Jamboree,” written and directed by Mrs. Bill Holmes, was presented following the meal.
