Mr. and Mrs. Errett Phillips, who have operated the Marion Pharmacy for the past 34 years, announce this week they have sold the business to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. E. McCartney of Eureka. The change of ownership and management was effective Jan. 1.

Tom Hett, well known local farmer/cattleman roped a large Golden Eagle the other day in Harold Hauser’s pasture. Why the bird didn’t fly, or couldn’t, Tom didn’t know. He says he will take the eagle home, feed him up, and see if they can teach him to fly.

Marion Marble and Granite Works, a widely known local monument firm, operated for many years by Jack Scott, has been leased, effective Jan. 1, to Walter Keazer and Jack Helmer.

Cynthia Ann Horst, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Horst of Florence, is the first baby born at St. Luke Hospital this year. She was born Jan. 2 and will receive the various prizes offered by Marion merchants.

North Cedar Street residents up in the neighborhood of the new church say there are so many “little chuckle-holes” in the street that it gives them the hiccups when they drive on it.

Alice Faye Ward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Ward, Marion, was one of 23 students at the Washington University School of Nursing in St. Louis, to receive the white cap of student nurses at the traditional “capping” ceremony.
