Seventh-grader Erin E. Wiebe of Hillsboro is among more than 900 academically gifted students selected statewide in the 2009 Duke University Talent Identification Program.
Selection is based on students’ scoring in the top 5 percent on SAT or ACT college entrance exams while still in middle school.
Nearly 300 of the students selected from Kansas will attend a program Saturday at the Lied Center on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence.
The Duke program, supported by student fees and donations, annually sponsors 35 regional ceremonies like the one at KU for its 16-state talent search.
According to a KU news release, Erin is the only Marion County student selected this year.
Wiebe is the daughter of Glenn and Maura Wiebe of Hillsboro.
