‘Patsy’ Waner

Funeral Mass for Patricia “Patsy” Ann Waner, 89, who passed away Monday, Sept. 27, 2021, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, will be 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at All Saints Catholic Church, 3205 E Grand St., Wichita. Inurnment will be Oct. 16 at Marion Cemetery.

She was born Aug. 12, 1932, to Mary Margaret (Reznicek) and Joseph Herman Meysing of Pilsen. Patsy was the fourth child of five and the only girl.

Patsy attended Marion High School but spent her final year of high school at Sacred Heart Academy, now Newman University, in Wichita, where she earned her teaching certificate.

Ultimately she earned a bachelor’s in elementary education from Tabor College and master’s from Wichita State University.

Patsy taught at several schools in Marion County, including Lincolnville, Canada, Pilsen, and Marion. She loved her students and delighted in hearing from them over the years.

Patsy met the love of her life, George, at a family wedding. They were married Aug. 12, 1954, at St. John Nepomucene Church in Pilsen.

They established their home in rural Marion County and raised their three children, Leo, Mary Kay, and Ann, there. Later in life, they relocated to Shawnee, Oklahoma, to be near family and grandchildren.

George and Patsy were married nearly 60 years until George’s death in 2014.

Patsy is survived by her children, Leo (and wife Juliette) Waner, Mary Kay (and husband David) Holland, and Ann (and husband Steve) Buckendahl.

Grandchildren include Rachel, Alex, and Nicole Waner; Matthew (and wife Abi) Holland, Katie Salinas (and husband Jason McClaren), and Claire Buckendahl.

Great-grandchildren include Arianna and Valentino Salinas, and Zoey, Sadie, and Darci Holland.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, and husband, George.

Memorials may be made to the Father Kapaun Guild, 424 N Broadway St, Wichita KS 67202, or by having a Mass celebrated in her honor.

It was one of her most fervent desires that she be remembered through the celebration of the Mass. The location of the Mass can be at a Catholic parish of your choice.
