A. Wayne Wiens

A. Wayne Wiens, emeritus professor of biology at Bethel College, died unexpectedly Feb. 6. He was born Oct. 31, 1936.

He graduated from Hillsboro High School and received a bachelor’s degree in natural science at Bethel College, a master’s in zoology at Kansas State University, and a doctorate in biochemistry and cell biology at Northwestern University.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Lutsch of Newton; a daughter, Amy of Columbus, Ohio; a son, Eric of El Cerrito, Calif.; and two brothers, Wendell Wiens of Newton and Paul Wiens of St. George, Utah.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Krehbiel Auditorium, Fine Arts Center, Bethel College. A gathering will follow in the Krehbiel Science Center atrium.

Memorial funds have been established with the A. Wayne Wiens Biology Scholarship Endowment Fund at Bethel College, Habitat for Humanity, and the Mennonite Central Committee Meat Canning Project.
