According to accident reports released Monday:


K-256 at 190th Rd.

A cement truck driven by Joshua Ward, 34, Hillsboro, overturned at 9:45 a.m. March 18, as it was making a right hand turn on K-256 west of Marion at the junction with 190th Rd. Ward was transported by LifeTeam helicopter to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Sheriff’s deputy Wilma Mueller reported driving too fast for conditions was a contributing factor to the accident. The truck, owned by Concrete Products, Hillsboro, was towed from the scene.

Sunflower Rd. north of Walnut St.

Justin Tate, 22, Newton, and a passenger, Kendall Hein, 40, Florence, were seriously injured when Tate lost control of his 2006 Chrysler Pacifica on Sunflower Rd. and struck a tree Sunday at 12:09 a.m. Medical helicopters transported both men to Wesley Medical Center. The report filed by sheriff’s deputy Mike Ottensmeier reported alcohol consumption and driving too fast for conditions were factors in the accident. The vehicle was destroyed and towed from the scene.

Intersection of US-50 and Nighthawk Rd.

A 2010 Ford Fusion attempting to cross US-50 after stopping at the north stop sign on Nighthawk Rd. was struck on the passenger side by an eastbound 1998 Honda Accord driven by Rosa Guerrero, 48, Newton, at 4:10 p.m. Sunday. One passenger in the Accord, Linda Guerrero, 21, was taken by LifeTeam helicopter to Wesley Medical Center. Lessly Torres, 17, Wichita, and Jesus Guerrero, 17, Wichita, also passengers in the Accord, were taken by ambulance to Newton Medical Center. Sheriff’s deputy Mike Ottensmeier reported the driver of the Fusion, Diane Howell, 53, Hillsboro, was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

US-77 north of 40th Rd.

Mario Gutierrez, 58, Ottawa, struck a deer with his 2014 Ford 2500 at 7:50 a.m. March 17.

The vehicle was driven from the scene.


300 block of Briarwood Ln.

Larry Cole, 73, of Hillsboro, reported a dent in the right front fender of his 2012 Dodge pickup at 2:20 p.m. March 16. Police reports said Cole had been to several cities recently and did not know where or when the damage had occurred.
