Accident reports released this past week by law enforcement agencies:


100 block of N. Jefferson St.

Shelby Johnson, 17, of Hillsboro was backing west into the street. When she backed her vehicle toward the south, she struck the left, rear corner of a USD 410 van legally parked in a stall to the south.


Indigo Rd. north of 160th Rd.

Lowell Heinrichs, 81, Hillsboro, struck a deer with a 2014 Honda CRV owned by Wrights, Inc. of Hillsboro at 4:55 p.m. Sept. 13.

Goldenrod Rd. north of 285th Rd.

Ginger Becker, 64, Durham, struck a deer with her 2010 Toyota Camry at 6:38 a.m. Sept. 6.

US-56 west of Nighthawk Rd.

Daniel Moreno, 44, Dodge City, was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition westbound when the vehicle reportedly began to shake, then crossed the centerline and went into the south ditch, striking a row of trees and a fence at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 16. Moreno and four passengers were not injured. The Expedition, owned by Luciano Ledesma of Dodge City, was towed.

K-150 east of Yarrow Rd.

Avery Stalford, 15, Richmond, was driving 2008 Cadillac Escalade eastbound when the vehicle crossed the center line for unknown reasons and struck a 2002 Nissan X-Terra driven by Brooke Smith, 22, Emporia, at 8:11 p.m. Sept. 16. Both vehicles came to rest in the north ditch. Smith was declared dead at the scene by a county coroner. Stalford and a passenger, Jessica Stalford, 36, Richmond, were taken by Marion ambulance to Via Christi – St. Francis in Wichita. Both vehicles were destroyed. Deputy Travis Wilson reported improper lane change and going the wrong way were contributing factors, but no citation was issued.

US-77 south of 310th Rd.

Ian Reimschisel, 20, Bel Aire, was driving north in 1998 Chevrolet Blazer when the vehicle entered the east ditch, slid sideways, and rolled, coming to rest on the driver’s side in a field at 10 p.m. Sept. 19. Deputy Derek Calvert reported that Reimschisel was injured but not transported to a hospital. A medical condition and/or fatigue and overcorrection were reported as contributing to the accident.
