Aubrey N. Cook, 24, Wichita, hit a deer at 5:05 p.m. Dec. 3 while driving a 2017 Honda Civic owned by Aaron B. Schwartzman of Leawood. The Honda sustained disabling damage to its front, sides, windshield, and undercarriage and had to be towed.

US-77 south of 370th Rd.

Two drivers were injured in a head-on collision of pickup trucks at 2:55 a.m. Dec. 5.

According to a report by deputy Kaylan Miles, each driver attempted to avoid the other by changing lanes after noticing that one of them, allegedly intoxicated, had been driving in the wrong lane.

Neftali Roman, 48, Herington, whom Miles observed to be intoxicated, was trapped for 45 minutes and had to be extricated from his northbound 2007 GMC Canyon by Marion and Lincolnville firefighters.

He was taken by Marion ambulance to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

The other driver, Tanner L. Easley, 18, Wichita, was taken by Dickinson County ambulance to Herington Municipal Hospital.

He had been driving south in a 2011 Dodge Dakota owned by John M. Rickard of a different Wichita address and reportedly drove all the way off the left side of the road in an attempt to avoid Roman’s pickup.

Both vehicles were listed as being destroyed. No citations were issued. The report states that Roman could not be interviewed because of the nature of his injuries but that Easley’s account of the accident was verified by a witness.
