These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

US-50 at Nighthawk Rd.

Pulling out from a stop sign on Nighthawk Rd. at 1 p.m. May 20, Judy F. Koehn, 67, Burns, drove her 2015 Dodge Caravan into the rear door and fender of a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu traveling west of US-50.

The Chevy, owned by Dollar General and driven by employee James M. Blake, 45, McPherson, sustained what was reported to be disabling damage, but no tow trucks were called.

Sergeant Travis Wilson blamed inattentive driving by Koehn, but no tickets were issued.

90th Rd. east of Chisholm Trail Rd.

A 2008 Toyota Scion that left the roadway and rolled several times was found abandoned at 6:12 a.m. May 21 in a field.

Owner Justin C. Weerts, 39, Moundridge, called the sheriff’s office 2½ hours later to say he had lost control of the car at 3:30 a.m. and had walked five miles to a relative’s house to report the accident.

Deputy Kaylan Miles blamed the accident on overcorrection and inattentive driving, but no tickets were issued.

Miles reported that the car was destroyed.

Indigo Rd. south of 100th Rd.

Cord A. Cunningham, 30, Hillsboro, hit a deer at 9:13 p.m. May 24 with his 2013 Volkswagen Passat, which had to be towed.

190th west of Remington Rd.

Gordon R. Entz, 53, rural Peabody, hit a deer at 12:30 p.m. Thursday with a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving for Roofing Services of Newton.

Despite damage along the entire driver’s side, the pickup remained functional.

HILLSBORO

Birch St. west of D St.

Louis J. Simmons Jr., 50, rural Hillsboro, was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital then transferred to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, after his 2019 Harley-Davidson Softail and a 2005 Lexus LS34 driven by James R. Hefley, 72, Hillsboro, collided at 5:53 p.m. Monday.

Simmons had been riding north when Hefley attempted to make a U-turn from a southbound parking space. The left front of the Harley and the right front on the Lexus were damaged. Simmons was thrown over the hood of the car and rolled onto the pavement.
