HILLSBORO

US-56 east of Orchard St.

An eastbound driver suspected of being under the influence of drugs rear-ended another eastbound vehicle at 7:24 a.m. Nov. 20 then fled the scene.

Assistant chief Randy Brazil’s report identifies the driver who left the scene as Troy W. Seaman, 35, Hillsboro. Results of a drug test performed on Seaman are pending.

Seaman’s 2016 Chevrolet Silverado sustained damage to its front and hood after striking the rear of a 2017 Ford Fusion, owned and driven by Faythe R. Korinek, 24, of Moundridge. Both vehicles remained drivable.

Brazil’s report blamed the accident on Seaman’s driving under the influence of drugs or medication and following too closely, but no tickets were issued.

3rd St. west of Ash St.

A hit-and-run driver reportedly struck Angela K. Vann’s 2012 Honda Civic at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 20 while it was legally parked two feet from the street in a driveway at her apartment. The car’s left front was damaged, but it remained drivable.

Main St. north of Grand Ave.

Gary S. McEwen, 71, Herington, was cited for improper backing, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and driving on the wrong side of a street after he backed his 2010 Ford F-150 into a legally parked 2002 Toyota Camry across the street and left at 1:24 p.m. Friday.

The Camry, owned by Rachel J.R. Jones, 70, of Hillsboro, sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage to its right rear and was moved out of its diagonal parking space by the force of the collision.

McEwen’s pickup sustained damage to its left rear. Both vehicles remained drivable.

After McEwen and his pickup were located, police recommended additional charges of running a stop sign and criminal damage to property. Those are pending with the county attorney.

The accident was witnessed and reported by four employees of nearby businesses.
