These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

US-56/77 at 290th Rd.

An Army van turning toward Lincolnville was rear-ended by a second Army van that had been following it at 1:25 p.m. March 19, according to an accident report released Friday.

Devin A. Hillery, 22, Ft. Riley, had slowed his northbound van to turn when the second van, driven by Noah G. Parker, 37, Ft. Riley, slammed into its rear.

Both vans remained drivable.

Riding in Hillery’s van were Robert E. Wormsley, 30; Andrew N. King, 28; Carlos A. Morales, 47; Noah Marietta-Perez, 25; Eric Liang, 24; and Ryan A. Lennon, 26.

In Parker’s van were Brandon F. Nsameluh, 26, and Leah T. Sloss, 38. All had Ft. Riley, Manhattan, or Junction City addresses.

Deputy Bruce Burke blamed the accident on inattentive driving by Parker, but no tickets were issued.

Cedar and Lawrence Sts., Marion

After stopping at a stop sign at 7:16 p.m. March 22, Cooper J. Brewer, 15, Marion drove a 2009 Dodge Avenger west into the intersection, where it was broadsided by a southbound 2014 Infiniti Q50 that had no stop sign.

Brewer was listed as possibly injured. He was checked by medics aboard Marion ambulance but declined to be taken to a hospital.

Both the Dodge, owned Kevin W. Brewer of Marion, and the Infinity, owned by Robert J. Lacy of Lebo and driven by Carla E. Taylor, 61, Marion, sustained disabling damage to their front, hood, passenger side, and undercarriage. The Infinity was towed.

Deputy Joshua Meliza’s report blames the accident on inattentive driving and failure to yield but also cites glare from the setting sun. No tickets were issued.

The accident was investigated by the sheriff’s department because no Marion police initially were on duty.

190th Rd. east of Quail Creek Rd.

Allie R. Vaught, 29, Hillsboro, hit a deer at 8:44 p.m. March 23 with her 2007 GMC Sierra, which sustained damage characterized as minor to its left front.

Tyler G. Jones, 32, of the same address along with 2-year-old Charlie E.R. Jones and baby Brody G. Jones were passengers.

US-77 south of 110th Rd.

Peggy J. Riley, 70, Manhattan, lost control of her northbound 2018 Nissan Rogue in rain at 3:29 p.m. March 24 and slid the car 226 feet across oncoming traffic and into the southbound ditch.

The Nissan sustained disabling damage to its undercarriage and was towed.

HILLSBORO

Grand Ave. east of Madison St.

Rachel A. Schafer, 17, Hillsboro, was ticketed for being an unlicensed driver after she backed a 2012 Acura TSX out of school parking at 3:30 p.m. March 27 and into an eastbound 2005 Honda CR-V driven by Maren L. Reed, 16, also of Hillsboro.

The Acura, owned by James A. Schafer of its driver’s address, sustained damage described as minor to its left rear.

The Honda, owned by Shawn R. Reed of its driver’s address, sustained more extensive damage to its passenger side but remained drivable.

Officer John Huebert’s report blamed the accident on Schafer’s view being obstructed by a truck parked next to her car. The other teenage driver possessed a valid license, according to Huebert’s report.

MARION

1400 block of Denver St.

Slowing to turn into a parking lot at 7:50 a.m. March 27, a 2004 Pontiac Vibe owned and driven by Rita J. Bartel, 62, Hillsboro, was rear-ended by 2008 Chevrolet Impala owned and driven by Cory M. Graber, 32, Marion.

Damage to both cars was characterized as minor. No tickets were issued.
