These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

US-77 south of 180th Rd.

Two people riding on a 2006 Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycle were taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, after a tire failure caused their motorcycle to swerve across lanes and flip onto its side at 6:26 p.m. July 12, according to a report released Thursday.

Driver Ulyesses A Stewart Jr., 24, and passenger Laurel I. Adamson, 26, of the same Manhattan address were taken to Wesley by Marion ambulance.

Stewart’s Harley, with extensive damage to the entire motorcycle, was towed.

150th Rd. west of Goldenrod Rd.

Jeffrey A. Naysmith, 56, Newton, hit a deer at 8:16 a.m. July 16 with a 2021 Ford F-150 owned by his employer, Cooperative Grain and Supply of Hillsboro.

The pickup sustained disabling damage to its left front and hood and was towed.

170th Rd. east of Nighthawk Rd.

Leyton E. Coover, 17, rural Peabody, hit an escaped cow at 10 p.m. July 17 with his 1997 Ford F-250.

The pickup remained drivable with damage to its left front, hood, and undercarriage.

Sophie M. Coover, 19, of a different rural Peabody / Newton address, was a passenger in the pickup.

Hillsboro Industries parking lot

Travis W. Radtke, 46, Marion, backed his 2014 Ford F-150 into a parked 2018 Dodge Challenger owned by John P. Percival, McPherson, at 5:45 a.m. July 17, according to a report by officer John Huebert.

Huebert said he noted light scuff marks on a trailer hitch on Radtke’s Ford and on the left front corner of Percival’s Dodge.

Container Services parking lot

A semi-trailer owned by Grasshopper Transportation of Chicago and driven by Nikola Ruzicic, 29, Niles, Illinois, struck a parked 2014 Nissan Titan owned by Caleb J. Potucek, Hillsboro, at 9:56 a.m. July 17.

The Nissan sustained damage to its left rear quarter panel and taillight. Officer John Huebert characterized damage to the semi as minor scrapes.

According to surveillance video provided by Container Services, the semi’s trailer caught the back corner of Potucek’s pickup, sliding it out of its parking space.

Nighthawk Rd. south of 160th Rd.

Recently hired deputy Clayton J. Philpott, 26, Peabody, hit one of three deer that jumped in front of his 2018 Dodge Durango sheriff’s vehicle at 10:17 p.m. July 17 while he was searching for a pickup that had hit a cow.

To avoid conflict of interest, Hillsboro police investigated the accident. Officer David Funk wrote that Philpott had been traveling at about 70 mph when the accident occurred. The speed limit on Nighthawk is 55 mph.

According to Funk’s report, Philpott’s Durango remained drivable with damage to its left, front, hood, and undercarriage. Three passenger-side air bags were deployed. Philpott did not report any injuries. Another deputy located the cow-truck accident.
