AGAPE has banner year, plans in 2011
The annual meeting of All Goessel Area Projects for Elderly senior center was Jan. 19. Norman Schmidt and Bob Unruh will serve on the board. Wilbert Schmidt was thanked for serving and volunteering to help maintain the facility.
Volunteers contributed 1,428 hours in 2010. Also this past year, the senior center served 4,907 meals, 1,271 more than in 2009. The additional meals were attributed to Wednesday programs, pool tournaments, and the Tabor Lunch Bunch. Other church and civic groups are invited to use the Goessel center.
When USD 411 schools are closed because of inclement weather, the center will also be closed.
Upcoming programs at noon include foot care and blood pressure and blood sugar checks Feb. 7 by Progressive Home Health and Hospice, a Valentine surprise Feb. 9, Goessel Maintenance Director Karen Dalke on Feb. 16, Goessel Police Chief Eric Reed on Feb. 23, and Gayla Ratzlaff will be available to assist with Homestead Act and Food Sales Tax refunds. Appointments are necessary for tax help and can be made by calling Marion County Department on Aging at (620) 382-3580. Virginia Downing is available to help seniors with personal income tax. Women’s vocal group Sweet Assurance, of McPherson, will perform at 6 p.m. Feb. 18 at the monthly potluck.
