Alan Wyss
Graveside services for Alan Wesley Wyss, who died Aug. 28, 2021, at his rural Burns home, were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday followed by a Celebration of Life at Burns Community Building, led by the Rev. Steve Hysom.
Born Oct. 22, 1941, in Newton to William W. Wyss and Martha (Criger) Wyss, Alan graduated from Burns High School in 1960 after attending De Graff Elementary School for grades 1 to 8.
He was raised on a farm north of De Graff and farmed it all his adult years until he retired. He continued to live there and had many friends in the local community. Special thanks to Terry and Pam Lowmaster and Sam, Matthew, and Becky Spinden, who provided support that allowed him to remain in his home.
Alan enjoyed going to Burns to visit the bank, play dominoes, and eat out at Braum’s in El Dorado. He always was willing to play cards; Ten-point pitch was the family favorite. He became a bridge player after Clifford introduced the family to it while he was going to college.
Alan was a member of the Chelsea Square Dancers and a bowling league and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a lifelong member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He attended De Graff Community Church in his later years.
He continued to be a 4-H supporter and purchased two pigs, a goat, a rabbit, a lamb, a peach pie, and a cookie platter from this past Butler County 4-H Fair. He was very proud of all the livestock ribbons he accumulated over the years, and he always enjoyed delicious baked goods he purchased from the Butler County 4-H Fair.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Martha Wyss, and brothers, Darrell Wyss and Clifford Wyss.
Survivors include sisters Sharon (and husband Dan) Bellis of Wichita and Loretta (and husband Don) Patterson of Augusta; sister-in-law Virginia Wyss of Burns; nieces Esther (and husband Jeff) Glaseman of Burns, Debbie (and husband Terry) Chastain of Ulysses, and Joanna (and husband Matt) Hadley of Burns; nephews Chris Schaffer of Wichita; Eric (and wife Angela) Schaffer of Wichita; Patrick (and wife Kelly) Wyss of Champaign, Illinois; Jeff (and wife Lynette) Wyss of Bellevue, Nebraska; Mike Patterson of Augusta; and Andrew Patterson of Wichita; 13 great-nieces; and eight great-nephews.
