Alarm company gives address but no town for fire call

An early morning call from an alarm company sent Marion firefighters scrambling to the wrong location Jan. 29.

Sheriff Rob Craft said an alarm company reported a fire in the 200 block of Eisenhower.

“The alarm company didn’t give us a town,” Craft said. “We called them back trying to get more.”

Craft said dispatchers made numerous attempts to reach the alarm company, but were not able to reach anyone who could tell them the needed information.

“Usually we do not have that problem with the alarm company,” he said.

Hillsboro fire department also responded and found the location in their town.

“One of my firemen, Matt Hein, took it upon himself to go look and found where the alarm was going off, but there was no fire,” Hillsboro fire chief Ben Steketee said.
