Alexander “Alex” Lorei, 95, of the Shady Brook area northwest of Herington died March 12, 2012, at Salina Regional Health Center.
He was born on Oct. 20, 1916, near Ramona to immigrant parents David and Katherine (Weimer) Lorei.
He was a farmer and stockman for many years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on the church finance board for many years. He was an officer on the Union Township Board, was a maintainer/patrolman and assessor for Union Township, and received his certificate from Smith School in Marion County in 1931.
He married Edna Mae Schlesener on Sept. 17, 1950, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, and she survives of the home. He is also survived by two sisters, Eva Langhofer of Topeka and Lucille Melcher of Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Lorie, George Lorei, and David Lorei Jr.; three sisters, Marie Longhofer, Ella Riffel, and Bertha Keeling; and his parents.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shady Brook, 2201 1000 Ave., Herington, with the Rev. John Riebhoff officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, and 9:30 a.m. until the service begins Friday at the church.
