After a successful wrestling season that included a 12-2 dual record and a fifth-place individual state medal, seven Hillsboro High School wrestlers earned all-league honors.
Tyler Jones and John Hein found themselves on the Mid-Central Activities Association first team, while Robby McClelland, Nicholas Mueller, Matthew Yoder, Aaron Bina, and Gabe Anderson earned honorable mention recognition.
Jones, who wrestled in the 152-pound class, finished the season at 34-11 after one victory at the 3-2-1A state tournament.
Hein (215) had the team’s highest winning percentage at 87.8 with a record of 36-5.
He also was 1-2 at the state meet.
Mueller (130) took honorable-mention honors because only one wrestler per weight class (unless there was a tie) can be on the first team.
In addition to a fifth-place finish at state and earning the team’s only medal, he set records in career victories (135) and career pins (72).
He also became the first HHS wrestler to win at least 30 matches all four seasons.
Bina (140) and McClelland (119) were the final Hillsboro state-qualifiers.
Bina, a sophomore, had a 26-15 record during the year, while the senior McClelland ended his final season with a record of 28-13.
The senior Anderson ended his career in the 171-pound class with a 24-19 record.
Although he did not make the state tournament, he finished fourth at the Herington, Eureka, and Hoisington tournaments, and took second at Remington.
