Allen Jay Hein

Allen Jay Hein, 82, of Winfield died Friday in Winfield. He was born on March 10, 1929, to Jake and Anna (Blackim) Hein of Hillsboro.

He grew up in Marion and married his high school sweetheart, Jean Muse, on Aug. 27, 1950.

He served in the Army during the Korean War and worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in Newton. He and his wife owned and operated the Western Auto Associate Store in Winfield for 32 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Hein.

Survivors include his spouse, Jean, of the home; children, Barbara King of Lawrence, Mary Jo Rohr of Wichita, and Doug Hein of Mulvane; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; stepmother Sylvia Muse; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 11 at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. Military committal honors will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. that evening.

Memorials have been established in his name for the First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, William Newton Health Care Foundation, and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
