Allen runs sub 10-minute 2 mile
Eleven Hillsboro High School athletes placed Thursday at the Conrad Nightengale Invitational at Halstead.
Joel Allen won the 3200 with a blistering time of 9 minutes, 57.66 seconds; the top six finishers in the 3200 all ran times faster than 11 minutes. He also placed second in the 1600 with a time of 4:44.45. He was also part of the second-place 4x800 relay team with Josh Richert, Justin King, and Bret Mueller, 8:43.57.
Mueller finished fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:10.03. King finished sixth with a time of 2:12.76.
Shaq Thiessen placed in multiple events. He finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 5.25 inches and fifth in the high jump, 5-10.
Jordan Riggs placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 148-09.
Mitchell Day placed sixth in the 200, 24.30.
The Trojans finished eighth with 39 points.
Callie Serene finished third in the girls’ 800 with a time of 2:33.22. She was also part of the fifth-place 4x800 relay team with Erin Wiebe, Heather Mayfield, and Erika Just, 11:36.71.
