Alma Meyer

Alma H. Meyer, 102, of Tampa, died Saturday March 7.

A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tampa. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at noon at the church. Burial will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

She was born July 29, 1912, to John and Helena Backhus in rural Tampa. She attended country school until the eighth grade. After she finished school, she worked as a housekeeper and nanny for new mothers. She married Ernest Meyer on April 15, 1945.

She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tampa. She was active in her church, and enjoyed sewing and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest; brothers, Irwin, Emil, Adolph, Herb, and Ed; sisters, Ella and Wilma; and one grandson.

She is survived by a son, Dennis Meyer, of Tampa; a daughter, Marlene Brunner, of Fremont, Nebraska, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

The family requests memorials to the Rev. Donald Brunner Scholarship Fund at Concordia Seminary, Ft. Wayne, Indiana, or St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tampa.
