IN MEMORIAM:   Alvin Miller

Alvin A. Miller, 73, of Emporia died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at Messiah Lutheran Church. Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier of the church will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery southwest of Olpe. The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The family requests that everyone wear their Emporia State University attire or black and gold, since Alvin loved ESU sports so much. Memorial contributions to the Messiah Lutheran Church may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett.

Alvin Albert Miller, son of Albert Henry and Helen Josephine Vogts Miller, was born Dec. 28, 1939, on the family farm southwest of Olpe. He attended Dixon Elementary school and graduated from Emporia High in 1957. He then attended Emporia State University for one year.

He married Glenda Sue Bolte on June 23, 1963, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Durham, Kan. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 23, 2013.

Alvin worked in the shipping and receiving departments at Woolworth, Crawford Manufacturing Company, Woolco, and Walmart from 1983 until his retirement in 2006.

He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Emporia Bowlers Association.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Glenda Sue Miller, and their daughter, Pamela Diane Miller, both of Emporia.
