Amstutz earns top certification

A Hillsboro Ford technician recently earned top recognition from Ford Motor Company for his knowledge and work.

Nathan Amstutz, who has worked for Hillsboro Ford five years, was awarded a Ford Senior Master Technician Certification after completing 75 online classes, 17 classroom courses, technology updates, and five years of experience as a Ford service technician.

“Doing so shows Nathan’s dedication to staying abreast of the latest automotive technology and continually improving his skills,” said Kim Kaufman, service manager at Hillsboro Ford. “He’s obviously learned a lot and can handle anything.”

Amstutz said the classroom training helped him learn about problems technicians seldom encounter in the shop.

Kaufman said if a tough problem comes in, Amstutz can handle it.

Automotive technology is evolving rapidly, both men agreed.

Amstutz said his love of working on cars began in high school, when he discovered his love of autos and mechanical work. His career was a natural choice, Amstutz said.

Although he worked for a different company after graduating his automotive training, he went to work at Hillsboro Ford about two years after he finished the program.

Amstutz gives credit to Kaufman for his guidance along the way.

“Probably the best training I’ve gotten here is from Kim,” Amstutz said.

Because he’s attained senior master technician status, Amstutz is now qualified as a chassis master, drivetrain master and engine master.

“As vehicle technology progresses, it requires increased levels of knowledge and skill for technicians to effectively complete advanced diagnostic and repair operations,” wrote Frederiek Toney, president of Global Ford Customer Service Division, in a letter to Hillsboro Ford.
