Four studio apartments above what is now Silk Salon and Boutique sat empty for years.
When Brent and Robin Miles bought the building at 125 E. Main St., they concentrated on the salon. They made improvements to a coin laundry and then began remodeling the studio apartments.
‘There hadn’t been anybody in these apartments for quite a while,” Brent Miles said.
Two apartments in the front of the building are about 650 square feet, and two in the back are about 500 square feet. Rent for the larger apartments is $850 with all utilities and high-speed Internet included. Rent for the smaller studios is $750, also with paid utilities and internet.
The apartments are all-electric. Miles already has rented one of them. The building dates to 1900, county property records indicate.
Miles did demo work himself and hired out electrical and plumbing.
“They were in pretty bad shape,” Miles said of the apartments.
They feature wood floors and new appliances.
The building once housed a mortuary, a restaurant, and perhaps a car dealership.
