Several college students from Marion County received honors that were announced this week.

Kansas State University

Brandon Widler, grandson of Ron and Dorothy Widler of Marion, was named to the dean’s honor roll at KSU’s College of Technology and Aviation in Salina.

Brandon’s parents are Steve and Vanessa Widler of Washington, Iowa. 

McPherson College

Jillian Overstake of Hillsboro was named to the honor roll for earning (grade point average of 3.55 or higher).

Dustin Meritt of Hillsboro was named to the honorable mention roll (3.25 to 3.54).

North Central University

Former Marion resident Sheri Schwab received a juris doctor degree May 16 from North Carolina Central University, Durham, N.C.

Schwab is a 1989 graduate of Marion High School, and currently is acting associate dean for personnel in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University.

Her parents, Bob and Karen Ehrlich of Marion, and sisters, Julie Sellmeyer of Vinita, Okla., and Lori Scott of Olathe, attended the ceremony and visited Schwab and her husband, Brady, at their home in Durham.

Southwestern College

The natural sciences and mathematics division recognized three graduates, including Katie Baltzer of Lehigh, for their college projects.

Baltzer also was recognized for academic excellence in science and mathematics.

University of Kansas

Marion High School graduates Shawna Johnson and Amy Tajchman were elected to Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society at KU School of Nursing, Kansas City.

Each received a bachelor of science degree in nursing in May.

Johnson’s parents are Eldon and Rhonda Hett and Tajchman’s parents are Charles and Kay Tajchman, all of rural Marion.

University of Wisconsin

Hallie Bennett, a 2000 Marion High School graduate, received a master of science degree in urban and regional planning May 16 from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Her parents are Harry and Margaret Bennett of rural Marion.
