Ash Street reopens
Staff writer
It took a couple of minutes after the street reopened Friday, but traffic began flowing along Ash Street in Hillsboro after two months of construction.
Construction began June 2, with crews excavating the old road surface to be replaced with a new reinforced concrete street.
Originally, the project was set to cost $412,000, City Administrator Larry Paine said, but an inspector urged the city to pay for sturdier construction. The final cost of the project was about $600,000, and the city paid about $125,000 of that. The rest of the cost was paid with a federal grant.
