Bachman wins Lyons round robin title

Staff writer

For the second time this year in what could be the start of a strong wrestling career, 126-pound Hillsboro freshman Jordan Bachman claimed his second meet title Saturday at the Lyons Round Robin tournament.

Bachman breezed through the class at 3-0, avenging a previous loss to Larned’s Samajay Alboyd in the title match by an 11-7 decision.

“He is beginning to peak at a good time with the CKL and regional tournaments coming up,” Trojan coach Scott O’Hare said.

Of the six teams competing, the shorthanded Trojans finished sixth with 26 points.

Outside of Bachman, only Andre Patton and Dylan Horton registered wins, combining to go 2-of-8 on the day with third- and fifth-place finishes, respectively.

Patton recovered from a heartbreaking opening-round loss in the closing seconds of the third period to beat Hutchinson’s Kyser Meininger by an 11-4 decision.

Horton got off to a good start, topping Wichita-East’s Christopher Jacobs by an 11-2 major decision.

Others competing were Charlie Major and Taryn Norstrom.

“Although Charlie, Taryn, and Dylan only walked away with one win between them as has been the case all season, we can’t fault their attitude and efforts,” said O’Hare. “Each of them are battling a variety of obstacles from injury, to lack of experience, to lack of confidence.

“However, they continue to battle in every match and each time out, we continue to see certain areas of improvement. If they continue to grind and hang in there mentally, I’m confident it’ll pay off.”
