Hillsboro City Council
Beavers acquire land for recreation

Hillsboro city council members chose Tuesday to help new residents establish an addition to their home, approving the sale of a lot of bare land at 206 Willow Glen Ln. to Gary and Connie Beavers, who recently moved to Hillsboro for retirement.
The Beavers already put $3,000 down on the property, located next to their home, but city administrator Larry Paine said he was not comfortable selling unless there was a commitment to building housing.
Gary Beaver emphasized he would rather use the land for recreation, beside the fact it would take a large amount of soil to make building a home possible.
“We’ve got grandkids, and we’d rather use the space to play volleyball or something,” Beavers said.
In other business:
- Because of new ownership, council members passed a cereal malt beverage license for El Lorita, also known as La Cabana.
- Presentation of the airport master plan and board appointments were delayed until the July 1 meeting.
- Council members met in closed session for 30 minutes. No action was taken upon return to open session.
- City administrator Larry Paine said the Hillsboro Youth Adventure would run today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The 13 participants signed up doubles last year’s group and includes students from Durham and Lehigh.
