Berean blows by Bluebirds

Contributing writer

Only three girls put up points for Goessel in the final regular season game Feb. 25 at Berean. Poor shooting has plagued the girls for the last two games as Goessel lost in Elbing 47-17.

Goessel fell behind quickly 11-0 in this contest and trailed 19-5 by the end of the first quarter. The Bluebirds hit more free throws than field goals as Berean coasted to a 28-13 halftime lead.

The Warriors scored from close range in the third quarter and stretched their lead to 47-17. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock and the game ended with a final score 57-17.

Scoring

Aleena Cook, 8; Page Hiebert, 7; and Alicen Meysing, 2.

The Goessel girls finished the season with a 7-12 record and have been seeded third in the 1A Division 1 substate tournament at Hartford. They will play Lebo High School on Friday, with the winner playing in the championship game on Saturday.
