Bertha Goentzel
Bertha Goentzel, 94, of Hillsboro died Monday at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. She was born Nov. 18, 1917, to Jacob Helena (Schmidt) Unruh in rural Durham. She was a housewife.
She married Clarence Goentzel on Aug. 21, 1940, in rural Durham. He preceded her in death in 1989.
She is survived by five sons, James Goentzel of Valley Center, Richard Goentzel of Geuda Springs, Quinton Goentzel of Chugiak, Alaska, Howard Goentzel of Palmer, Alaska, and Douglas Goentzel of Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter, Carmen Schmidt of Newton; one sister, Ellagene Buller of Covina, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Loyal Martin officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lehigh Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
Memorial funds have been established for Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church and Mennonite Central Committee.
